Expression of Interest – Speech Pathologist (Aged Care)

 Perth North Metro Medicare Local (PNML) requires the service of an experienced speech pathologist to provide services for residents of aged care facilities.

PNML’s aged care access program currently provides speech pathology services as part of the Aged Care Access Initiative to residents with swallowing and/or communication difficulties. The contracted position will require the speech pathologist to provide individual assessment and review of residents within aged care facilities across the PNML region (including facilities from Yanchep in the north to Glendalough) as referrals are received.

This is a contract position with no set hours, however requires the successful applicant to be flexible to attend urgent referrals promptly (within 2 days).

Skillbuilders was established in 1995, providing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary therapy services for children ever since. Our client group is diverse, including children aged 0-18 years presenting with the full range of developmental concerns that you may expect to see in community practice. We are registered service providers for both the Autism and Better Start programmes. We see children for therapy at our centre in Leeming (10 minutes south of the Perth CBD), as well as at Day Care Centres, schools and at home. Therapy is provided in both individual sessions and small group formats in collaboration with other team members.

An opportunity is available to join our friendly team and to develop and extend the Speech Pathology role within the team. We would envisage the role initially being 2 days per week, however there is excellent potential to develop this further. Days and hours are flexible. Ongoing mentoring and support is available.

To be considered for this role it is essential that you have:

* Degree in Speech Pathology (eg: B.AppSc. Human Communication)
* Membership eligibility for Speech Pathology Australia and Private Speech Pathologists Association of WA
* Relevant post-graduate experience
* High level of written and oral communication skills

Dear fellow Speech Pathologists,

I am writing to you to let you know that Viva Speech Pathology is growing and will be bursting by the seams unless I find some additional professional, competent and enthusiastic hands very soon!

I am looking for a well rounded and experienced speech pathologist for 3-4 days initially for a 12 month contract which should become a full-time position in the very near future. This opening is in the Tuart Hill Health Centre (near the Karrinyup Freeway exit on the corner of Wanneroo Rd and Morley Dr) which contains a thoroughly stocked toy room, a growing assessment collection and admin support from my receptionist.

Clinicians who have had private practice experience and who enjoy/have an interest in working with children and adults are encouraged to apply. (However, working with Paediatric clients only is also an option.)

I am primarily looking for a clinician who has had experience assessing and treating communication difficulties of:

Children who stutter using the Lidcombe program
A general 3-6 year old caseload (speech and language)
Children with dyspraxia and complex speech difficulties of young ages
Children who have Global Developmental Delays

The speech pathology contractor needs to be passionate about being a speech pathologist and needs to actively seek to learn new skills.

Promotions will be built into the contract as an incentive for the successful candidate as well as bonuses for using their own initiative to build the practice further.

Applicants who have an interest or skill level in any of the following clinical areas will be given preference:

Adults & teenagers
Voice Care for adults
Teenage and adult stuttering clients
Accent reduction

Paediatrics clients_
School aged language & literacy difficulties (6 years and up)
Toddlers and young children with various speech pathology needs (ranging between 18-36 months)
Communication difficulties that are linked to cleft lip palate
Communication difficulties that are linked to disability/syndromes

Kids Biz Therapy Centre is a private, multi-disciplinary paediatric practice located conveniently in Muriel
Avenue, Innaloo close to the Freeway on/off ramps.  Kids Biz is also a provider of early intervention
services for Disability Services Commission and Department of Families, Housing, Community Services
and Indigenous Affairs (“FaHCSIA”).
